The land was once sacred hunting grounds for the Ute people, who thrived in the Roaring Fork and Crystal River Valleys, living in harmony with nature, family, and friends. Today, the ranch retains these characteristics, offering a serene environment that nurtures its inhabitants at Flying Dog.

In the early 1970s, George Stranahan, a prominent figure in the Roaring Fork Valley, acquired the ranch. It was later passed on to Richard McIntyre, the two ventured into the cattle business at high elevations, recognizing the challenges of ranching in such conditions and shifted their focus. The two would later became involved in the craft beer industry, founding Flying Dog Brewery, which shares its name with the ranch.

Today, Flying Dog Ranch West is a private retreat offering panoramic mountain views, abundant wildlife, and a rich history. Its proximity to Carbondale and Aspen makes it an ideal location for those seeking a blend of seclusion and accessibility.
